Anyone who was lucky enough to be of TV-watching age in the early 90s will remember just how much Simpsons mania swept the globe. 

The antics of Homer, Marge, Bart Lisa and Maggie were not only incredibly funny but the show was THE most hard-hitting satirical take on American and wider global culture. 

Simply put, something like The Simpsons had never been seen before and Matt Groening’s show set the bar for every sitcom that came after it. And then the millennium happened.

It’s a commonly-held theory that around 1999/2000, The Simpsons gradually starting going from being one of the smartest things on TV to one of the dumbest.
