WATCH: Tommy Tiernan and Sean Bean feature in new trailer for gorgeous Irish movie Wolfwalkers

Rory Cashin

This could be a huge Oscar win for the Irish filmmakers.

Co-directed by two-time Academy Award-nominee Tomm Moore (Song Of The Sea, The Secret of Kells), and co-produced by the Academy Award-nominated Cartoon Saloon (The Breadwinner), there is a lot of hype around Wolfwalkers ahead of its screening at the London Film Festival this week.

Sure to be nominated a third time (and likely up against Pixar and Disney’s Soul), Moore and his co-director Ross Stewart helm a very impressive voice cast, including Sean Bean (Game Of Thrones), Tommy Tiernan (Derry Girls), Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Commitments), and Simon McBurney (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation).

The story of Wolfwalkers follows Robyn Goodfellowe (Honor Kneafsey), a young apprentice hunter who journeys to Ireland with her father (Sean Bean) in a time of superstition and magic to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh (Eva Whittaker), a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the “Wolfwalkers” and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.

At the time of writing, Wolfwalkers is set to be released in cinemas around Ireland on Friday, October 30 with previews from Monday, October 26.
