Eight of the best movies on TV this Sunday night

James Fenton

It’s Sunday night and it’s freezing so the only thing to do is curl up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and some decent movies on TV.

Tonight, we’ve got a decent blend of comedy, horror, drama and even a dance movie to shake yourself out of the weekend and into the new week. The THIRD last working week before Christmas, we might add, so, ya know, we’re nearly there.

Here are some of the best movies on TV this Sunday night…

Heartbreak Ridge – ITV 4 – 9pm

Clint Eastwood in a war movie. That is all.

Hall Pass – Comedy Central – 9pm

A Farrelly Brothers comedy starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as two husbands who are given ‘hall passes’ by their wives entitling them to have sex with whoever they want.

The Pursuit of Happyness – Virgin Media One – 10pm

No, that’s not a typo, that’s what the movie is called! A biographical drama starring Will Smith as a struggling father which is well worth your time.

The Workshop – BBC Four – 10.10pm

A 2017 French drama about a Parisian novelist who runs a writing workshop for a group of young people.

Gone Girl – FilmFour – 11.15pm

A thriller based on the novel of the same name starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.

Shaun of the Dead – ITV 4 – 11.40pm

This one needs little introduction. An uproarious blend of zombies, romance and so many quotable one-liners.

Streetdance 2 – BBC One – 12.20am

If you’re the type of person to stay up this late on a Sunday, you’re probably dancing anyway.

Insidious: The Last Key –  Channel 4 – 12.30am

Another option for the night owls, particularly the ones who like a good scare before bedtime. The fourth instalment of the horror franchise.
