Let The Fam Know – This Is When The Young Offenders Christmas Special Will Air On Christmas Day

Megan Cassidy

This one’s not up for dispute.

You may argue over when to open the presents (Christmas morning? Before dinner? After dinner?). You will probably argue over who gets to sit with the dog and who’s making the Irish coffees.

But people, there will be no arguing over what you are doing at 22:35pm on Christmas Day.

Labelled “The Christmas Special to end all Christmas specials” (by RTE themselves in fairness, but still) – The Young Offenders Christmas special will air on RTE One at the above time, having premiered on BBC Three yesterday.

The special takes place in Christmas week and sees Conor (Alex Murphy), his mother Mairéad (Hilary Rose) and best friend Jock (Chris Walley) joining the other residents of their estate to fight off plans to move them so that renovations can take place.

The situation gets more complicated when Mairéad is hospitalised and the boys embark on “a chaotic adventure to try make her wish come true and in the process find out something about themselves and the value of empathy”.

The six part series was a roaring success off the back of the 2016 movie, with a second season due to begin filming in the New Year.
