The inaugural Cork Podcast Festival has announced its first event and it’s a huge one.
The global sensation that is the West Cork podcast will be coming live to the Cork Opera House on Saturday, October 12.
Created by investigative journalist Sam Bungey and documentarian Jennifer Forde, West Cork delves into the story of Sophie Toscan du Plantier who was murdered days before Christmas in 1996 and her broken body was discovered at the edge of her property near the town of Schull in West Cork. The rest remains a mystery.
Named by Time Magazine as one of its top 50 favourite podcasts, it guides listeners through the brutal, unsolved murder and the tangled web of its investigation, while introducing an intricate cast of characters, a provocative prime suspect, and a recovering community whose story begs to be heard.
At the live performance, you’ll get to meet the makers and hear exclusive behind the scenes stories with Sam and Jennifer on stage at Cork Opera House.
Tickets are priced at €26.50 plus booking fee and will go on sale this Friday, July 12 at 10am via corkoperahouse.ie.
Ed O’Leary and Joe Kelly of The Good Room have teamed up with Cork Opera House to present Cork’s first Podcast Festival, taking place in venues across the city, including Cork Opera House, Crawford Art Gallery, The River Lee, Plugd Records, pubs and book shops from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October 2019.
The rest of the festival line-up will be announced throughout July and will feature a broad palette of talkers, thinkers and doers, covering everything from fact and fiction, stories and tales, sports to comedy, and beyond.
