McDonald’s announce measures that will see customers continue to be served

James Fenton

McDonald’s have confirmed that their restaurants will continue to operate, offering customers takeaway, drive-thru and McDelivery orders only.

Writing about the company’s plans for the Covid-19 outbreak, McDonald’s UK and Ireland chief executive Paul Pomroy said: ‘our restaurants will remain open for as long as it is safe to do so. In the last 24 hours it has become clear that we need to temporarily change our operations to ensure the wellbeing of our employees and customers consistent with the Government’s guidance on social distancing.’

Seating areas in McDonald’s restaurants have been shut since 5am this morning and Pomroy added that operations will ‘temporarily move to being takeaway, drive-thru and McDelivery only.’

‘The wellbeing of our employees, customers and suppliers remains of the greatest importance to us and these changes are designed with you all in mind. We have not taken this decision lightly and will continue to review this over the coming days.’

Children’s play areas in the restaurants are also closed but toilets will remain open.
