A Plant-Based, Gluten-Free, Peanut-Free Restaurant Has Opened In Waterford

At long last Waterford has a dedicated vegan restaurant. 

The Candied Hazelnut has opened on O’Connell Street in Waterford serving plant-based, gluten free and peanut-free food. 

In the last five years, Waterford’s restaurant scene has really upped its game with award-winning restaurants and chefs setting up and making Waterford their home.

In an interview with WLRFM, Owner and Chef Teresa Heffernan talked about why she chose Waterford as the location for her new restaurant: “We were looking for somewhere with good footfall and Waterford seemed like a good place…after a couple of months, we came across this building, it’s on a street I’ve always liked. It’s in the cultural quarter, and it’s a little bit quirky so we fit right in here, I think.”

She said it was easy to transition in to vegan eating and cooking, “fruit, vegetables, spices and pulses all have wonderful flavours, so it’s not that difficult to make them taste good.”
