Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has sent a message of support to the Irishman who was critically injured before the club’s Champions League semi-final against Roma last night.
The fan, named today as Sean Cox, a 53-year-old from Dunboyne, Co. Meath, was injured before the match at Anfield last night in an assault which has led to the arrest of two men from Rome.
Liverpool eventually beat their Italian rivals 5-2 but club captain Jordan Henderson has now spoken out to say ”the only result that matters now is that he recovers and can return home to be with his family and loved ones.”
The midfielder took to Twitter this afternoon to state that the thoughts of all the Liverpool players are with Mr. Cox and his family.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with Mr. Cox’s medical costs as well as expenses for family members who have traveled to Liverpool to be by his side. If you wish to donate, you can do so here.
Liverpool FC and Roma have both issued statements condemning the attack.
