Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

Imagine making six cocktails in six minutes – This guy is a master of his trade.

The final of the World Class Irish Bartender of the Year competition took place last weekend at the Taste Of Dublin and the buzz in the tent was like no other. There were three bartenders competing against one another, putting their skills to the test. The pressure was on, the judges sat with scorecards on hand as the crowd were cheering for the participants – It was electric.

Carl D’Alton from Cask in Cork was crowned Irish Bartender of the Year 2018.

This is the second year in a row that a Cask bartender takes the crown. Carl’s mentor and colleague Andy Ferreira was the previous winner in 2017 and he seemed delighted to pass on the title to a friend.

Carl will now go on to represent Ireland in the global finals in Berlin this coming October.

Carl won the title after competing in a series of complex challenges regarding craft, bartending skills, passion, innovation, creativity and ambition, all in front of a live audience.

This global competition brings together the best bars, the most talented bartenders and the most exquisite spirits from around the world.

Speaking at the event, Nial Molloy, Diageo Reserve & World Class Ireland Brand Ambassador commented;

“This year’s World Class has left us in absolute awe. Ireland is standing up to the world and shining in talent and hospitality. The skills we’ve seen on show, not only this week but throughout this year, are right up there with the best in the world. Our new champion Carl is one of the most talented, humble and creative bartenders on the scene. He brings local Irish and seasonal ingredients to life in ways we’ve never known were possible. He is at the top of his game. He makes us proud to be Irish. And we’re both extremely proud and excited to bring him to Berlin to represent us against the best in the world. We truly feel he’s got what it takes to take the global title.”

We can’t wait to see what Carl has in store for us!
