The shortlist for the top Foodie Destinations in Ireland 2019 have just been revealed.

Run by the Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) to celebrate Ireland’s unique food offerings, it also aims to promote local food tourism around the country.

The RAI says it looks out for a winner “that actively promotes itself through food festivals, gourmet trails or farmers’ markets, as well as great dining experiences for locals and visitors alike”.

The finalists for 2019 are:

  • Mid & East Antrim Borough
  • Taste Causeway/Causeway Coast and Glens Borough
  • Cavan
  • The Food Coast Donegal
  • Galway
  • Monaghan & Glaslough
  • Waterford
  • Donegal Town
  • Tralee

The winner will be announced on August 28 and will be drawn from a public vote as well as a judging panel who will be visiting each of the shortlisted locations.

Kilkenny took the top spot in 2018, while Kinsale was also named ‘Ireland’s Foodie Town’ in last year’s ceremony.

Adrian Cummins, CEO of the Restaurants Association, commented at the launch in June, “In 2018 the standard of competition was incredibly high. Foodie Destinations is an excellent opportunity for regions across Ireland to promote what makes them unique.”
