The Leitrim distillery was up against some of the biggest spirit brands in the world for the award, and was the only Irish business in the short-list. Fellow finalists included Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Teremana Tequila and Moët Hennessy’s Ardbeg representing Scotland.
The former wrestler took to Twitter to congratulate Drumshanbo on their win, adding that he was looking forward to trying their product.
He said:
Big congratulations Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin on your award. That’s a big one! I look forward to trying your Irish gin!
He also said he could see that Drumshanbo were “a passionate brand and proud distillery”.
Big congratulations Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin 🥃 on your award. That’s a big one!
I look forward to trying your Irish gin! Like us at @Teremana, I can see you guys are a passionate brand and proud distillery.
Congrats again!!— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) November 4, 2022
A bitta old-school WWE smack talk about how the win was a fluke and Drumshanbo would smell what The Rock is cooking at next year’s competition wouldn’t have gone amiss but in absence of that, a humble and well-intended congrats from one of the most famous men in the world is pretty cool.
Fair play to Drumshanbo!
