Lidl are keeping our greens greener.
Lidl has released a biodegradable banding completely eliminating plastic.
The German global discount supermarket has created a fruit and veg innovation that will remove 10,000 kilos of plastic every year.
That's pretty feckin' cool!
They took to Twitter today to announce the news:
We’re excited to show you our latest fruit and veg innovation that will remove 10,000 kilos of plastic every year! We’ve created a biodegradable banding completely eliminating plastic and holding the product in bunches with the @Fairtrade_ie, Organic branding and barcode 🍌🍌🍌🍌 pic.twitter.com/OsLLi5X9Ra— Lidl Ireland (@lidl_ireland) July 9, 2018
It's the first solution of its kind in Ireland.
They worked alongside Irish supplier Global Fruit and growers in the Dominican Republic to remove the plastic packaging on the 2.5 million Fairtrade Organic bananas sourced from their family business.
To top it off, the premium contributions from these bananas will support a primary school in Mao Valverde, providing education to more than 50 children.
Has Lidl just become our new fave supermarket?
