This Is Set To Be The Biggest Food Trend In 2018 And It’s All Thanks To Social Media

Veganism is set to be the number one food trend in Ireland for 2018, according to a new study conducted by Just Eat.

The food and delivery service stated that the prediction is in part down to an increase in demand from image and health-conscious consumers who are social media-savvy.

Demand for healthy choices generally grew by 94% in 2017 compared to 2016 while gluten free options increased by 72%.

In 2017 there was a whopping 987% increase in demand for vegetarian options and 33% of all Just Eat restaurants now provide vegan and vegetarian options on their menus.

Just Eat Marketing Director, Edel Kinane said:

“The results from this year are a good insight into the future consumer trends and while convenience will continue to be key for consumers next year and beyond, we know that they are increasingly looking for more diverse, healthy, gluten free and plant based vegan options”.

New Year’s Day 2017 emerged as the most popular day of the year to order takeaway when Just Eat saw a 40% increase in orders on January 1 2017 versus last year as people across the country recovered from having one too many during the big countdown.

Same again this year no doubt.
