Galway is getting a festival of light and colour this Christmas

Sarah Finnan

Galway at Christmas is pure magic.

The whole city comes out of hibernation, despite the cold, and flocks to Eyre Square to enjoy the festivities.

Highlights each year include food from one of the many tasty food stalls, the Ferris wheel with views to rival even those of the London Eye and of course the legendary beer tent.

2019 will see the Festive Light and Colour Experience return to Galway once more. Think large lighting installations and projections on well-known local buildings.

Like I said before, pure magic.

The lights will act as beacons and attraction points to guide visitors throughout the festival, providing interactive photo opportunities along the way.

And don’t worry, they’re more energy-efficient as they’re LED lit.

The one-off early evening extravaganza will take place on November 15th at 5:30 pm with live music, face painting, a magician and balloon modelling amongst the entertainment on the day.

Santa and Mrs Claus will arrive on the Santa Express Train, just in time to officially turn on the lights along with Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Peppa Pig, Giant Elf and Snowman. A star-studded lineup to say the least.

Organised thanks to the support of Galway City Council. Galway City Business Association and local business owners, it promises to help celebrate the most wonderful time of the year in the most wonderful way.
