Galway’s most festive pub is giving away free Guinness to promote Green Friday

Sarah Finnan

Tomorrow marks the start of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Madness.

But this year, the growing trend seems to be towards buying Irish…turning the idea on its head and promoting Green Friday instead.

Even Massimo, the beating heart of Galway’s West End, is putting their own spin on the initiative.

Holding the title of the City of Tribe’s most Christmassy pub, the guys at Massimo are encouraging customers to buy local by rewarding them with a free pint of the black stuff.

Free Guinness? Tell me more.

All you have to do is show a receipt form a local gift shop or crafter for something you bought over the last week and you’ll be compensated handsomely with a pint of plain on the house.

Now that sounds like an offer we can’t refuse.

Choosing to get behind the people who run independent shops, studios and other small businesses in the area, Massimo is helping to boost the local economy.

According to owner Simon Heaslip: “There are a lot of hard-working people around Galway who run independent shops and who graft hard in their studios in the run-up to Christmas.”

He later added that “Massimo is housed in a hub of really talented creatives and a lot of what they do is absolutely fantastic but sometimes can go unnoticed because of the noise made by bigger competitors.

We wanted to do something to encourage people to get in and support these people, so we said we’d have some fun with the whole ‘Black Friday’ thing by putting a bit of a Massimo twist on it”.

With only one keg to give away though, they’re urging you to “be sound” and not take advantage.

A great incentive to support your own this Green Friday and enjoy Massimo’s ‘temple of festive spirit’ all at the same time.

Winning.
