If ever there was a drink that acted as a social infusion this is it.

Two of the most social things to do in Irish culture are to have a cuppa or have a drink, so to see two in one I can only imagine the chats that will be had over a glass of this stuff.

You guys already know gin is a passion of mine and I'm always on the hunt for new and exciting flavours and variations. When I'm having downtime, however, I do enjoy having a cuppa in the lámh so this mix is a dream come true.

Barry's Tea and Blackwater Gin have collaborated together to make a harmonious melody of flavours.

Feeling as excited as I am?

Well then, let's get straight to it and spill the tea.

(literally)

The Bottle:

I have to say I really adore Blackwater branding.

The bottle is crisp, clean and unique - you'd know instantly that it's a Blackwater gin bottle without it being too in your face.

Through the glass, you'll see the River Blackwater, a huge part of the brand and spirit production.

Background:

Blackwater is a micro-distillery based in West Waterford, on the banks of the Blackwater River.

It's the historic ties that Waterford has with exotic climes that have inspired the flavours in this gin:

"Today the Blackwater is famous the world over as a salmon river, but for hundreds of years, its deep dark waters made it a perfect artery of commerce. From Sir Walter Raleigh with his potato and tobacco, to the current Duke of Devonshire in Lismore Castle, this part of Ireland has long traded with the farthest corners of the globe.

In Victorian times, White’s of Waterford was the largest spice importer in the country, and they grew wealthy shipping everything from sugar to cinnamon into the region. Also the first steamboat in Ireland was on the Blackwater, as were the last sailing schooners to travel the coastal waters between Ireland and Britain."

When tea leaves are distilled it actually has a spicy flavour which is reflected in this gin and has resulted in the other botanicals chosen to compliment this.

Before bottling they have a brew up and these large pots of tea get stirred into the gin prior to bottling and that’s what gives this gin its golden glow.

Botanicals:

  • Juniper
  • Sicilian Lemons
  • Green Cardamom
  • Angelica Root
  • Sweet Spanish Oranges
  • Barry's Tea

On the nose:

On the nose, you'll immediately get a sense of aromatic spices finishing off with subtle zesty notes.

Straight:

The gin combines Barry's Tea Classic Blend with Sicilian lemons, sweet Spanish oranges, juniper berries and cinnamon. It has a sweet and spicy flavour.

With Tonic:

Tonic gives it that full-bodied flavour - warm, spicy and zesty.

Signature Serve:

  • Slice Of Lemon
  • The London Essence Gin
  • Barry's Tea Blackwater Gin
