‘Freckling’ – A Cruel New Dating Term That Is Damaging Relationships In Ireland

Darragh Berry

“Summer lovin’ had me a blast.”

There’s no story sweeter than that of a summer romance and the coming of summer flings also means the coming of ‘freckling’.

According to AskMen, a lot of us are guilty of doing this in the summertime, when the weather is fine and they coin it as the dating trend of getting involved with someone during the romantic summer days when the nights are bright and long. However, once the cold autumn comes and the light disappears, the freckles disappear and so does the relationship.

Meaning, it is the polar opposite to ‘Cuffing’ which sees people desperately looking for other people in the colder months just to have someone to cuddle up to.

However, the website states that: “You can be freckled by someone, but that doesn’t mean they disappear forever – they’ll probably lurk on your Instagram over autumn and winter, occasionally watching your stories and liking your posts, only then to drop you a message come June 1st the next year.”

Cheeky enough.

This means that between the pair of ye, nothing is every clear-cut and no one really knows where they stand.

So, if you’re in a fling that just started in May or June, be careful because come September, it could be gone just like your freckles.
