Here’s a list of Irish Black-owned businesses you can support going forward

Irish Black-owned businesses

The situation over in America has brought many of us back to reality, awakening us to the racism and inequalities that exist within our own countries and communities. Not just “an American problem” or a “people of colour problem”, it’s clear that this is very much a human problem and one that we all have a responsibility to address.

However, in order to see real change, we have to be committed to doing things differently and one way you can ensure you’re doing just that is by supporting Irish Black-owned businesses – of which there are plenty.

With racism and all things pertaining to inequality and injustice first and foremost in people’s minds at the moment, it’s important to ensure that it’s not just all smoke and mirrors and that we are actually making good on our promises to do better… to be better.

Here to help us along the way is Irish Black Owned, a newly established Instagram account whose mission is to “change the perception” by giving Irish Black-owned businesses a voice and making sure they’re well-represented amongst the Irish public.

Set up over the weekend, the account only has two posts so far, one of which lists out a number of Black-owned businesses around the country that you can support. Covering everything from hair and beauty to food, fashion and the creative arts, it’s a great place to start and discover new talent (or at least talent that could be considered ‘new’ to you).

Already boasting over 3k followers, page admins are encouraging people to get in touch and continue adding to the list so it’s as comprehensive as possible.
