Bunlacken Brú coffee trailer at the foot of Cullahill is promoting Climb With Charlie, a charity event happening all over Ireland.

Bunlacken Brú opened for business six months ago, and is the perfect spot for sustenance for those climbing Cullahill Mountain. Whether you need a bit of pre-climb energy before embarking on the walk, or a caffeine fix following your pursuit of Cullahill, Bunlacken Brú is there for you. They’re known for promoting various charity walks, including one for the Irish Cancer Society that took place in September.

Now they’re raising awareness about Climb With Charlie.

Climb With Charlie

Charlie Bird started Climb With Charlie when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. As a result he decided to raise money for two charities; so far he’s raised €135,783 for Pieta House and the Irish Motor Neurone Association. In aid of these charities, Charlie aims to climb Croagh Patrick at the beginning of April with his family. He also encourages those who want to participate to do their own climb in their local areas.

It says this on the Climb With Charlie website:

“Due to uncertainty around Covid, I need to be cautious around the numbers who will also climb the Reek but you can organise your own ‘Climb with Charlie’ on April 2nd. Simply click on the button below to create your own fundraiser – maybe walk a local hill or mountain or even a walk around your local park. Every contribution helps and all contributions will be reflected in the total funds raised on this page.”

The Cullahill community therefore organised their own climb around Cullahill Mountain on the 3rd April. This takes place the day after Charlie will do his own climb.

Bunlacken Brú café promoted the cause on their Instagram; they left a link in their bio for people to donate or to read more about Charlie’s story.

If you wish to donate to the cause, or organise your own Climb With Charlie fundraiser, you can do so HERE.
