Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has given the biggest indication yet that people could take foreign holidays over the coming months.
While stating that people “should not be holidays abroad at this point,” Coveney has been quoted as saying that he does see potential for international travel over the coming months.
He explained that the Government is working on becoming part of the European Commission’s green passport scheme, which is aimed at allowing fully vaccinated people to travel across the European Union. The system is expected to be in place from June and the Irish Government will decide when to join based on the public health situation.
Meanwhile, it is expected that an announcement will be made next week regarding the plan for easing restrictions in May, June and July. Personal services such as hairdressers could reopen next month and talks are still ongoing on when to reopen hospitality. Publicans have asked that outdoor service returns for all pubs from late-May before a resumption of indoor service from June.
