RTE to screen Shakespeare plays for Leaving and Junior Cert students

James Fenton

RTE has won plenty of praise recently for its Home Shool Hub aimed at primary school students, but it’s the older kids who will benefit from the national broadcaster’s latest announcement.

During this ongoing period of social isolation, children and parents alike have been enjoying RTE’s Home School Hub, which is broadcast every morning at 11am. Keeping some semblance of school going in these most strange of circumstances is important and in no case is that more true than the case of Leaving and Junior Cert students.

With no news yet on what will happen with the state exams this year, students are having to do their best to keep up with their studies at home. Thankfully, RTE has stepped in again by announcing that it will be screening a series of William Shakespeare productions over the coming weeks.

As anyone who has sat in a secondary school exam hall will recall, knowing The Bard’s works inside out can make all the difference between getting a B or a C, thus making or breaking a teenager’s future. Only messing, kids.

However, since Shakespeare makes up such a pivotal part of the English syllabus, it’s no harm in keeping his work fresh in your memory as the weeks away from school pass. It all starts on Saturday, April 11 and you can see the full schedule below. All screenings will also be available to watch post-broadcast on RTE Player.
