Berries become a far bigger part of your life than you ever anticipate when you have kids
They’re the perfect weaning food and a quick way to get fruit into fussy kids.
They’re not cheap though, eh? A week’s supply of berries for my one child alone makes up a decent chunk of the grocery shopping bill.
And that would be ok, if they didn’t disintegrate into a soggy mush before my eyes, sometimes before I even get them in the door.
It’s SO annoying.
Raspberries are the worst culprits, closely followed by strawberries. In the blink of an eye they’re either covered in mold or they’re so soft, they’re basically a smoothie.
But I have some rather amazing news for you. I’ve recently found the answer to all our berry-related problems… A glass jar!
Yep, it’s that simple.
The moment you get the little feckers home, pop them straight in to a glass jar, seal it super tight and pop them into your fridge.
Don’t be tempted to wash them first — you don’t want any added moisture in there. Instead, wash them as you go.
I’m telling you, it works. I currently have strawberries in my fridge that I bought almost a week and a half ago and they’re perfect.
But don’t just take my word for it, Jillian from Food, Folks & Fun did a deep dive on the methods circulating the internet. Her verdict? The glass jar method is the one.
Whether you pick up cute mason jars in a homewares store, or reuse old jam jars, the method works.
No more food waste and no more wasted money — hurrah!
