These Vintage Baby Names Are At Risk Of Going Extinct In Ireland

Kiara Keane

It looks like a number of unusual baby names are set to become extinct as they haven’t been used by parents in several years now.

If you’re on the lookout for unique name ideas then this list from Ancestry.ie might be for you as they’ve discovered the most and least popular choices in Ireland.

Emma, Lucy, Lily, Grace and Emily topped the list as the most popular girl’s names over the past 100 years.

The most popular boy’s names were Adam, Harry, Luke, Aidan and Mark.

On the other end of the scale, the ‘critical’ boy’s names at risk of going extinct are Herbert, Norman and Cecil.

For girls, Gertrude, Ethel, Gladys and Muriel haven’t been used as a first name in quite some time.
