Pigtown Food Festival has returned to Limerick city. Celebrating all things food and culture, the annual event is a big hit - particularly with meat-eaters.
Inspired by the history of Limerick’s famous bacon industry, the Pigtown Culture and Food Series kicked off yesterday with a special dinner at the Mustard Seed. Determined to give locals and staycationers something to enjoy, there are plenty of foodie events organised throughout this month and next to celebrate.
Now in its fourth year, last year's festival enlisted the help of local Love Island star Greg O'Shea, who was on hand to serve up tasty BBQ sliders to the good people of Limerick. Promising to deliver yet another stellar programme of events, 2020 highlights include the Pigtown Dinner in the River Restaurant, Pigtown Pinxtos at No. 1 Pery Square and a new Saturday market that has just been launched with Crafts and Plants at the Potato Market.
Why pig though you may ask? Well with four bacon factories operating at the heart of the city, the pig was central to Limerick’s economic and social life. Makes sense really.
You can keep up to date with announcements and see the full list of events here.
As happy as a pig in...I'll just let you finish that one yourself.
