Check out this gorgeous little bakery on Clare Island

Fiona Frawley

As far as islands of Ireland go, Clare Island off the coast of Mayo is a must visit.

About a 20 minute ferry ride from Roonagh Pier near Louisburgh, Clare Island was the home of OG girlboss and pirate queen Gráinne Mhaol, with loads to explore including the napoleonic tower, an ancient abbey and beautiful beaches.

But we were today years old when we found out about the Clare Island Oven, a gorgeous bakery that specialises in sourdough bread, delish pizzas and sausage rolls in crossaint dough. Gráinne would be proud.

The bakery is located right beside the harbour and open from 8 each morning with freshly baked bread, pastries and sweet treats. They have every meal taken care of with breakfast focaccias for the morning, tartine and the aforementioned sausage rolls for lunch and the tastiest of pizzas for dinner. They’ve also recently completed a gorge outdoor seating area where you can sit back with a pastry of your choice and take in the amazing views.

We can’t wait to pay a visit to this hidden gem!
