Cork’s favourite song revealed at official ceremony

Cork's favourite song was performed at the Opera House plenty of times

84 tunes were nominated but we have finally discovered what Cork’s favourite song is.

A competition was launched before Christmas by Cork City Libraries to decide Cork’s favourite song and the winner was revealed at an official ceremony on Monday evening.

At an exclusive performance of the shortlisted songs, it was announced that After All by The Frank and Walters had come out on top.

84 songs were initially nominated before last week, when an independent jury narrowed it down to a shortlist of 10, which are named below:

After All by The Frank and Walters
The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee by Billa O’Connell
Beautiful City by Billa O’Connell
The Boys of Fairhill by Jimmy Crowley and Stokers Lodge
Going to My Hometown by Rory Gallagher
The Langer Song by Natural Gas
Princes Street by John Spillane
An Puc ar Buile by Seán Ó Sé
Safety Rope by Mick Flannery
Where’s me Jumper by The Sultans of Ping

To be in with a chance, songs had to have some connection with Cork and few in the Rebel County will argue with the final outcome as After All has become something of an unofficial Leeside anthem.
