€1 Billion Plan For Slick New Docklands Area Will Double The Size Of Cork City

Sarah

Plans to develop a €1 billion ‘New Cork’ will be discussed by planner this week in a move to double the size of the city and create a new urban quarter.

The Irish Examiner reports that the 220-hectare area on the north and south docks will be divided into two schemes — the City Docks and the Tivoli Docks.

The area is the same size as the existing city centre, and the City Docks project hopes to provide 9,500 housing units and 29,000 jobs.

City planners are hosting two workshops this week to begin drafting plans for the redevelopment, and it is hoped the new local area plans (LAPs) will be completed by next February.

A mass transit system is also in the plans along with apartments that make efficient use of the land.

Cork is gonna be transformed.
