Pretty much five years ago to the day, I started writing the very first blog post on a small new personal site aimed at reviewing restaurants in Dublin.
The intention was to find new places to eat in the city and the post was seen by 323 people and had a grand total of 1 comment.
Over the next few years, that blog morphed into a business that today employs 40 people in four countries and is a fully fledged and growing media company.
Throughout those five years, as with any business, there have been many ups and downs but today, we take the next step towards fulfilling our dream of taking the Lovin brand to every major city in the world.
I wanted to share some big milestones for our company...
A New Managing Director
Trevor Daly has taken over the day-to-day running of the business and will drive Lovin to new heights.
Trevor is an advertising professional with ten years TTL experience, who will help as the group expands towards 100 people by supporting our mobile, social and video-focused content. He'll also play a key role in helping brands to connect with our growing audience.
A New Director Of Strategy And Operations
A growing team, audience and client base creates a need for a serious back-end to the business.
Hugh O'Flanagan will assume the role of helping us scale the company. Hugh graduated top of his class at Trinity, is a Harvard MBA nominee and the man to help propel Lovin to the next level.
What started as a 1 person blog is now a team of 40 talented people, spread across 4 countries.
We now reach 10 million people every single month.
Our global network is powered by social and our community is growing exponentially.
So, where to next?
When it comes to Lovin, you could be reading content on mobile, engaging across any of our 25 social channels or watching one of the 100m video views we had during 2016. You could be reading in Dubai, Dublin, Malta, Manchester or here on Lovin.ie.
We have a lot of work to do on improving the base we have already built and the foundations for that will be put down by Trevor, Hugh and the world class team we have assembled.
At the same time, international expansion is continuing. We plan to roll out three more cities in 2017 and the long term goal is to be in every major city in the world. We aren't building this company for the short term.
My own personal goal is to continue finding people smarter than me in every possible position and employing top-class talent. As we grow around the world, the core of the business, our culture and our talented operations team will always be based out of Dublin.
What started off as a simple blog post will turn into so much more. Whether you are a reader, want to join the team or are a partner or client, we hope you enjoy the journey.
We certainly are.
