Gardaí are searching for the man who violently attacked a woman as she made her way home from her work Christmas party in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Amy Hayes was walking home from her work Christmas night out when she was assaulted on Georges Street, Co. Wexford.

The attack took place at approximately 3am, according to Independent.ie.

The 27-year-old retail worker sustained major bruises to her body and broken bones in her face after being violently punched and kicked by the attacker.

Ms Hayes’ sister Gillian told the Wexford People that Amy ‘fought back so hard’.

She said: ‘He kicked the living daylights out of her. The fight in her saved her life.’

She added: ‘She is bruised from head to toe and she has broken bones under her nose. It’s the brutality of it.’

During the assault, a woman living in Abbey Court heard Ms Hayes screaming and went out to her balcony to see what was happening, according to the publication.

The woman screamed at the man to stop, and he ran away. She then rang the Gardaí.

Ms Hayes was taken to Wexford General Hospital by ambulance, and later transferred to Waterford University Hospital.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault. Anyone with information regarding the attack should call 085 916 5200.
