News broke today that Leonard Cohen, the Canadian singer, songwriter, poet, novelist and all-round legend, has died at the age of 82.

Cohen deserves to be remembered as the icon he truly was. He spoke with great intelligence and thought, which translated into both his music and literature.

Here is a collection of the very best of Leonard Cohen quotes that will teach you something about life.

Leonard Cohen

1. We must adapt to the changes around us

"If you don't become the ocean, you'll be seasick every day."

2. Nothing is perfect

"There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in."

 - 'Anthem' from the album 'The Future'.

3. Love is complicated

"This is the most challenging activity that humans get into, which is love. You know, where we have the sense that we can't live without love. That life has very little meaning without love."

4. We have become too cynical

“As our eyes grow accustomed to sight, they armour themselves against wonder.”

5. Be true to yourself

"Act the way you'd like to be and soon you'll be the way you act."

6. It is hard to move on sometimes

"How can I begin anything new with all of yesterday in me?"

7. Just, yeah

"Never make a decision when you need to pee."

The whole world is just a little bit wiser thanks to you, Cohen.
