It’s been confirmed by RTE that the one body has been found by search teams diving to the wreckage of rescue helicopter 116, which tragically crashed on March 25th.
The remains of Captain Mark Duffy were discovered in the cockpit of the helicopter by a Naval Service diving team last night, however his body could not be brought ashore due to complicated diving conditions.
The search teams hope to continue the dives today in an attempt to bring Mark Duffy back on shore, and locate the other two missing crew – winch operator Paul Ormsby and winchman Ciarán Smith.
Black box
The helicopter’s black box was also found earlier yesterday, and has been sent to the UK today to have its contents downloaded and analysed.
It’s hoped that the black box will shed some light on the moments before the helicopter went down.
