Fine Gael representative Fergus O’Dowd wants the DART line extended to Drogheda.
The Louth TD wants the extension plans for the DART line, which see it catering to Balbriggan and Maynooth, to work toward serving Drogheda, according to Dublin Live.
Mr O’Dowd said: “I am calling for the Dart to be extended as far as Drogheda.”
“An extension of the Dart line would mean increased capacity and shorter waiting times, especially at rush hours.”
He added: “The extension of the Dart line would make a huge difference to the life of commuters, cutting journey times and increasing frequency.”
Mr O’Dowd said that an extension of the rail service to Drogheda would be of benefit those who now drive to Dublin due to train delays and overcrowding.
He said this would cut the amount of time spent in traffic on a daily basis.
Mr O’Dowd also referenced the fact that Budget 2018 provided €230 million for rail and DART development.
He added: “Population growth north of the current limits of the Dart has increased greatly in recent years and it is now time to think logically about the future and extend the service as soon as possible.”
