A man in his 50s has died while swimming in Westport, Mayo yesterday evening.
RTE reports that the man had been swimming with other people at a location called ‘The Point’ at Westport Quay when he got into difficulty in the water.
Efforts were made to revive him, but he died at the scene and was taken from the sea just after 7pm.
His body has been taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
