We hope Leo Varadkar and Michael D. Higgins are taking note for Ireland’s play-offs in November.
The ENTIRE country of Panama has been given the day off after their national football team qualified for the World Cup for the first time ever.
The tiny Central American nation defeated Costa Rica 2-1 last night to clinch their place at Russia 2018 and President Juan Carlos Varela decided feck it, let’s all have a big day off to go on the pints.
He confirmed the news on Twitter:
Es un día histórico para el país. Mañana será libre para los trabajadores del sector público y privado.
— Juan Carlos Varela (@JC_Varela) October 11, 2017
En un Día de Fiesta Nacional también se suspenden las clases en las escuelas públicas y privadas del país, celebren en familia.
— Juan Carlos Varela (@JC_Varela) October 11, 2017
His tweets translate as:
“It is a historic day for the country. Tomorrow will be free for the public and private sector workers.
“On a national holiday also classes are suspended at the country’s private and public schools, celebrate family.”
Judging my these manic celebrations, the whole nation has been brought to a halt.
Fair play, lads. We’ll hopefully catch you in Russia!
