Always Wanted To Be A Garda? Now’s Your Chance

Is it your dream to police Ireland’s streets and do your bit for the community and keep them safe? Well yer in luck so, as  An Garda Síochána have launched a recruitment drive to find 800 new candidates.

Applications close on the 1st June, so you’ve still got a good bitta time, and women are especially encouraged to apply for the roles.

Here’s what you need to have to apply:

  • Be aged between 18 and 35 as of 1 June 2017, i.e. born between 31st May 1982 and 1 st June 1999
  • Possess an Irish Leaving Certificate with a grade D3 minimum in five subjects at Ordinary Level OR hold a Level 5 Certificate (Major award) on the National Framework of Qualifications OR hold a recognised qualification (at level 5 or greater), deemed comparable to the above in terms of both level and volume of learning as determined by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)
  • A proven proficiency in at least two languages, one of which must be Irish or English
  • Possess what the Garda refer to as being “medically and physically fit, who have a dedicated sense of community spirit, are empathetic, and who are passionate about helping other people”
