Anger As Convicted Murderers Released From Prison For A Hike Up Croagh Patrick

A decision to temporarily release convicted murderers in order to let them hike Croagh Patrick has been met with anger.

The Sunday World revealed at the weekend that several notorious killers, many of whom were convicted of violent crime and are currently serving life sentences, were brought to the Mayo mountain as part of a day release programme.

However, a spokesperson for victims rights group Save told The Irish Independent that the outing was inappropriate and highlighted a need to revise Irish sentencing and parole laws.

It’s understood that the group of 12 inmates are nearing the end of their sentences and travelled to climb the reek last Wednesday.
