Applying For Any Sort Of Driving License? You Need To Be Aware Of New Regulations

Sarah

Applying for a drivers license or just need to renew yours? Well, you’re going to have to apply for a Public Services Card (PSC) in order to go ahead with your application.

The identity card, which has already been issued to more than 3 million citizens in Ireland since it was first introduced to social welfare recipients in 2011, is now required for anyone wishing to drive – making it fairly essential to have.

The Road Safety Authority website now states that:

“From Monday 9 April 2018 you will need a Public Services Card to apply for a driving licence or learner permit.

This change will simplify and increase the security of the application process, help combat fraud and keep unlicensed drivers off our roads.

“The Public Services Card will now be the only form of identity accepted at NDLS centres when applying for the first time or renewing your driving licence or learner permit. It will be used to verify your name, PPS number, address and identity.”

The front of the card holds a person’s name, photograph and signature, along with the card expiry date. The back of the card holds the person’s PPS number and a card number.

To find out more or to book an appointment to get your Public Services Card, visit www.psc.gov.ie or get in touch with your local Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection office.
