A 22-year-old Irish J1 student is in a serious condition following a water accident yesterday.
Newstalk reports that the student, who was in Ocean City, Maryland, got into difficulty in the water with four other students.
The alarm was raised by one of the swimmers around 6.30AM.
Rescue swimmers arrived at the scene and helped two of the swimmers to shore.
It’s understood that one of the swimmers began suffering from cardiac arrest during the rescue.
The student was given CPR and brought to Atlantic General Hospital.
The Department of Foreign Affairs are aware of the incident and are ready to provide consular assistance.
