Sarah

A body has been discovered off the Skerries coast following a major search operation after a boat sank at the harbour yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Irish Coast Guard confirmed to TheJournal.ie that the body of a man was recovered this morning.

The body, which is believed to be Jamie McAllister (20s) who went missing after  the boat incident yesterday afternoon, was recovered around 500 metres from the Skerries pier.

The search resumed at 6.30am this morning, with units from the Howth Coast Guard, the Skerries Coast Guard, the Clogherhead Coast Guard, RNLI units and the Rescue 116 helicopter all assisting in the rescue efforts.

Jamie’s uncle, Keith McAllister, was also on the boat at the time of the incident and was rescued from the water at 1.30pm yesterday and is now receiving treatment in hospital.

The boat is believed to have been around 100 metres from the harbour when it started to capsize.

A member of the public raised the alarm and local RNLI lifeboat crews attended the scene.
