Snapchat Is Launching Sunglasses That Record Video

niallharbison

We all know and have fallen in love with Snapchat over the last few years but today the company is taking a turn in a completely different direction.

It was announced overnight that Snapchat is launching its own range of connected sunglasses. The ‘Spectacles’, as they are calling them, will record ten second snippets of video, which will connect to the app.

This reminds us of Google Glass, which was largely seen as a flop and has since fizzled away as a product.

As part of this launch, the company is also rebranding itself as Snap Inc – clearly a sign that there are more apps and hardware products to come under the parent brand.

As the company is saying itself…

We’ve been working for the past few years to develop a totally new type of camera. We call it Spectacles!

Imagine one of your favourite memories. What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it? That’s why we built Spectacles.

Spectacles are sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories.

Interesting to see if these take off. They’ll be $130 and available this autumn.
