Britney Spears Reportedly Seeking Freedom From Conservatorship With Her Father

Brian Dillon

Singer Britney Spears has asked a judge to be set free from her conservatorship with her father and accused him of sending her to a mental health facility last month against her will, according to reports from TMZ.

TMZ also reports that Britney’s mother’s lawyer is backing up these claims, as well as claims that her father forced her to take certain drugs.

The 37-year-old recently spent 30 days in an LA metal health facility, sparking an online ‘Free Britney’ campaign.

Britney’s father, 66-year-old Jamie Spears, has been her sole conservator since 2008. It’s reported that Britney’s mother became concerned when she saw the comments about Britney’s freedom online.

Britney appeared in court on Friday with her mother, who is trying to obtain medical records regarding her daughter’s health.

While hearings on the status of the singer’s conservatorship took place in Stanley Mosk courthouse in Los Angeles, fans gathered outside to demand freedom for Spears.

Fans wore merchandise, played her hits, held up #FreeBritney signs and explained to reporters that they were concerned for the singer’s welfare and the state of the 11-year long conservatorship.

The conservatorship started in 2008 when a court deemed Britney incapable of looking after her financial and professional affairs, leaving her father in charge of these matters.

Last month, after the online #FreeBritney campaign, the Toxic singer took to Instagram to put rumours to rest, writing, “There’s rumours, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said.

“I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me.

“Don’t believe everything you read and hear. These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago… I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address.

“My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment.”

But after learning that Spears was to attend court in an attempt to end the conservatorship, fans became concerned again.

Lutfi is Britney’s ex-manager and apparently wrote emails in Britney’s name. Lutfi has taken to Twitter to join the #FreeBritney movement, stating that he had been talking about this for ten years now.

Sources tell TMZ that Britney’s requests for adjustments of the conservatorship were not granted but an expert evaluation of the singer has been ordered.
