Struggling to fall asleep at night? You’ve probably heard all about the light from your phone and TV causing sleep problems, but there’s also another factor at play that you might not even be aware of.
LED lights on streets and motorways are apparently wreaking havoc with our sleep cycles, and it’s their bluish-white light that could be keeping you from having a good night’s kip.
The American Medical Association recently warned about the health affects of LED lights, saying that the white light is estimated to be five times more effective at suppressing melatonin at night than the high pressure sodium lamps (given the same light output) which have been the mainstay of street lighting for decades.
“Melatonin suppression is a marker of circadian disruption, which includes disrupted sleep.”
