The water supply in many County Clare towns and villages has been omitting a foul odour in recent days – one which Irish Water is investigating.
Business owners have been suffering in what would usually be one of the busiest times of the year for them, claiming to ClareFM that the bad-smelling water is damaging for their reputation.
Local residents have reported that their water appears cloudy, giving off a foul smell – with some locals claiming they’ve thrown up because of the water supply.
Irish Water has stated that a naturally occurring algae is the suspected cause, and that a treatment has since been added to the supply to rectify it.
Any customers with queries or concerns about the quality of their drinking water should contact the Irish Water customer care line on 1850 278 278.
