Thieves broke into a church in Clare on Sunday night and stole the contents of dozens of Trocaire Lenten Campaign boxes, as well as donations from Easter Mass.
The contents of the boxes are estimated to be worth up to €8,000, TheJournal.ie reports.
The robbery is believed to have taken place between the hours on 8pm on Sunday, and 10am on Monday, and was at Ennistymon church.
The burglars smashed a window in the church and forced their way in, where they then broke into a locked room inside the church and managed to break into a safe which contained the money.
Local Gardai are investigating the incident and have issued an appeal for anyone with any knowledge of the crime to come forward.
Members of the public who have any information are asked to contact Ennistymon station on 065 7072180 or Kilrush station on 065 9080550.
