After all the debate, the Irish Presidential Election is over for another seven years after Friday’s vote saw Michael D.Higgins secure a second term at the Áras.
However, it appears a number of voters would prefer to see others in the office if these spoiled votes are anything to go by.
According to RTÉ, Dublin football manager Jim Gavin’s name was included on one ballot paper while ex-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern got the nod in another. As if Donald Trump hasn’t annoyed enough of the world during his time in the White House, someone appears to want him to take up residence in the Phoenix Park.
Dustin The Turkey also got his name in the mix while someone people simply wrote messages such as ‘rubbish’ and ‘no to abortion’.
Is it any surprise that the whole campaign was branded a farce in many quarters with people taking the piss like this?
