Say What?! Irish Teens Could Travel Europe For Free

Alana Laverty

The EU is currently considering offering European teenagers a free InterRail pass on their eighteenth birthday.

The free InterRail Initiative was first proposed a few years ago with the aim of bringing the European community closer together, and would allow teens to travel across the continent completely for free.

Members of the European Parliament and reps from the European Commission raised the idea again at the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg yesterday.

The scheme will cost about €3 million to implement and has been described as an “excellent idea” by European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc.

I can’t help but feel jealous, though. What about those of us who already turned eighteen, way back when? Where’s our free ticket?

European Union, hook us up.
