Rural Areas Could Be Set For Transport Chaos As Bus Éireann Drivers Consider Strike Action

katedemolder

Drivers at Bus Éireann have vowed to  engaging in industrial action if the company implements a controversial restructuring plan without full agreement.

Last September, it was mooted that the Expressway service could be separated from the rest of the company, meaning a reduction in staff numbers and the implementation of pay cuts for those remaining.

Bus workers have formed a new group entitled Save Our Bus Service to protect rural transport services and has accused the National Transport Authority of being the ‘HSE on wheels’.

The National Bus and Railworkers Union will be backing a campaign from Wednesday against the planned reforms and warned that there’s a real danger of huge parts of the country being left without any services at all if Bus Éireann do go ahead with the new strategy.
