Fianna Fáil Has Announced That United Ireland Plans Are Already Underway

James Fenton

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has stated that the party’s blueprints for a United Ireland are underway.

In an interview with The Irish Times, Mr. Martin said that Fianna Fáil has outlined a 12-point plan which would help cross-border relations and aid the integration of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland into one whole nation.

Included in this is the alignment of school curriculums, of which Mr Martin said:

“The list of Seamus Heaney’s work, for example, would be on both. The work of Frank McGuinness would be on both.”

Another proposal is to attempt to attract foreign investment to current cross-border areas such as Donegal and Derry.

Martin recognises the difficulties in convincing citizens on both sides of the border with tax being cited as a key issue:

“I see some of the surveys saying that if you had to pay extra tax, would you vote for it and the polls go down.

“It is not a slam dunk by any means. The people of the Republic need to be taken along as well.”
