Simon Harris Confirms Abortion Services Will Be Free In Ireland

A day after the Eighth Amendment was officially removed from the constitution, Simon Harris has confirmed that abortion services will be free of charge to those who need them.

Speaking at the launch of a new Together For Yes billboard in Dublin, the Health Minister said, “Yes it is my intention that services will be free.

“I’ve said from the start that I don’t want cost to be a barrier.

“If cost is a barrier you get into a situation where one of two things could happen – you see private clinics develop, we don’t want that to happen in Ireland.”

The Eighth Amendment, which was signed into law in 1983 and protected the right to life of the unborn, has now been replaced with a clause that states ‘provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancy’.
