A day after the Eighth Amendment was officially removed from the constitution, Simon Harris has confirmed that abortion services will be free of charge to those who need them.
Speaking at the launch of a new Together For Yes billboard in Dublin, the Health Minister said, “Yes it is my intention that services will be free.
“I’ve said from the start that I don’t want cost to be a barrier.
“If cost is a barrier you get into a situation where one of two things could happen – you see private clinics develop, we don’t want that to happen in Ireland.”
In accordance with Article 46 of the Constitution, President Higgins today signed the Thirty-Sixth Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2018, and it has accordingly become law.
