Footage Allegedly Shows Garda Shooting A Man In The Foot In This Irish County

Darragh Berry

A video circulating online allegedly shows a garda shooting a man in the foot following an altercation.

It is not clear what the incident was about or why Gardaí were called to the scene.

It looks like there are three people at the scene as well as the Garda. There are two men, one in a van and another man who is stopping the Garda from opening the door of the vehicle.

The other person, who sounds like a woman, seems to be recording the footage and asks the garda “what’s this for” to which he does not reply.

As the video goes on, the second man who was stopping the Garda from opening the door, looks like he begins to hold onto and pull the Garda’s tie – which is around his neck – with force.

In what looks to be like a retaliation, the garda then pulls out a gun and shoots the second man in the foot.

Screaming can be heard and the camera quickly turns to the man in question who looks to have blood on his shoes.

In a statement released to Lovin.ie, a garda spokesperson said that:

“As part of an on-going investigation by Gardaí from Longford, they attended an incident in Granard earlier on the 3rd of December 2018.

“During the course of this incident an official Garda firearm was discharged. As this incident has been referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission, An Garda Siochana are not in a position to comment further.”
